World Series Game 2

Okay, the National League is traditionally a low scoring league. We put our pitchers in the batting order! Though, when your pitcher is Babe Ruth that is probably a good idea. In 2 games, the Giants have been scoring runs like there is a storm coming and they have to hoard them.

No truth to the rumor that "Halfway There" by Rush was playing in the Giants locker room.

World Series game 1

At 2-0 I must admit I was writing the Giants off against Cliff Lee. But then Lee went from auditioning for the Yankees to auditioning for the Mets.

Condolences to Sandy Alderson, the New GM of the Mets. The hunt for a manager begins.

2010 World Series

They are going to play the games whether I care or not (hint: not), so I might as well write about it. As a pathetic fan of the Muttropolitans, I will be rooting for the Giants. They gave us the orange color and the NY design for our logo. They gave us the Say Hey kid, Willie Mays.

Over the weekend, both the Yankees, and Phillies got knocked out of the playoffs, so life is not as miserable as it was.

Jeff, get off the pot and Hire Sandy Alderson already!

Sandy, I'm ready to coach the team.

Jerry's kids

I apologize for the insensitivity that I am demonstrating here, but I couldn't resist. With the Mets as done as they are, and considering the youth (farm talent) that has been getting extensive playing time of late, the thought occurred to me to refer to the team as Jerry's kids. The I realized that we're on the eve of Labor Day when Jerry Lewis holds his telethons for the Muscular Distophy Association.

please visit his site and contribute to the wonderful work that they do:

No rest for the weary

Okay, I get it. With K-rod out for the season the Mets have no closer. However, there are some rules that deserve to be observed. One of these is that when a pitcher has pitched well for more than 6 innings and has given you the lead, you don't let them take the loss. 2 on and none out in the bottom of the seventh with a 2 run lead Pat Misch should not have made another pitch. Period.

K-Rod needs to see Bull Durham

The Mets have announced that their closer Kyra Sedgwick, er I mean Francisco Rodriguez, has a torn ligament in the thumb on his pitching hand. They also said it can be inferred that the injury occurred when he allegedly assaulted his father-in-law. Crash Davis famously told Nuke that you don't hit a guy with your pitching hand.

What am I missing?

I think the future looks bright for Mets fans. We may have 3 legitimate starting pitchers in Johan Santana, Mike Pelfrey, and tonight's starter Jon Niese. We also have starting position players from within the organization- Ike Davis, Ruben Tejada, Jose Reyes, David Wright, Josh Thole.

Tonight, Niese pitched 7 shutout innings. Unfortunately, with 2 outs in the 8th ininng and 2 runners on base, Jerry Manuel did not bring in his closerand a 2-1 lead turned into a 6-2 loss. K rod was not brought in why?

The fork is stuck

With apologies to JFK, "Let the word go forth from this time and place that the fork has been stuck,". . .in the 2010 New York Mets. They are done. They have been psychologically eliminated from playoff contention. I don't say this with glee. I just state the facts. I must also apologize to Tug McGraw for the name of this blog.

People ask me how I can be a Mets fan when they lose as they do, especially in a town that has a team called the Yankees. My earliest memories of baseball come from the late '60s and early '70s. I lived in Flushing, Queens (a remarkable feat of plumbing). The first 2 players that I knew existed were Tom Seaver and Tommy Agee. To a four year old, that meant all players were named Tom and they all played for the Mets. So, I'm not going anywhere. Neither, apparently are the Mets. Well, not to the playoffs in any event.

This site will be devoted to celebrating the good and acknowledging the not so good about the Metropolitan Baseball Club of New York. I hop you enjoy the ride. I know I do every season.
